Paul ROsenbloom, piano

  • Paul Rosenbloom is an accomplished pianist and composer. He began piano studies at the age of ten with Joseph U. Boudreau. He graduated magna cum laude in music composition from Harvard in 1974, and received his Masters and Doctorate in composition from Cornell in 1979. He has taught theory, piano and composition at Cornell and the New England Conservatory, and computer science at the University of Rhode Island. He was principal pianist of the Filarmonica de Caracas (Venezuela), as well as head of the piano department at the Caracas Conservatory. After over a quarter century, Paul recently retired as principal pianist with the Rhode Island Philharmonic; he has conducted the Young Peoples Symphony, the URI and Ariosti chamber orchestras, and has been the composer-in-residence of Musica Dolce since its inception.

Catherine reilly, Violin

  • Catherine Reilly holds a B.M. in Violin Performance from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she studied with Elizabeth Chang. She pursued further studies in chamber music the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in Burlington Vermont, the Silk Road Ensemble’s Global Musician Workshop in Greencastle Indiana, and the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Piobbico Italy. She is a Suzuki violin teacher, having received her training from Allen Lieb of the School for Strings in New York City. Catherine returned to Rhode Island in 2019 and began teaching private violin lessons and assisting with strings classes at the Meadowbrook Waldorf School. Today she leads the the music program at Meadowbrook, teaching strings, recorder ensemble, and chorus.

Ted Mook, Cello

  • Ted Mook relocated to Rhode Island after almost 30 years in New York City. As a free-lancer, he performed regularly with the Orchestra of St. Lukes, Musica Sacra, on Broadway, on film scores, recordings, and with countless other orchestras and ensembles. He has been (and remains) an active proponent of contemporary music, particularly microtonal music, and has performed at the Library of Congress, the American Academy in Rome, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and on concert series and festivals throughout the US, Europe and Australia. Recent tours include appearances in NYC, Boston, Bremen, Oldenburg, Porto, Brussels, Baltimore, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Perth and Brisbane.

Laura Gulley, Violin

  • Laura Gulley performs and records regularly on Baroque violin with Boston Baroque, Foundling, the Newport Baroque Orchestra, La Donna Musicale, Amphion’s Lyre and Renaissonics. She played with the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra in 2005 and has also performed with Revels, the Rialto Ensemble and Musicians of the Old Post Road. Gulley researched, directed and performed Latin American music of the Baroque era for the score of a film about Simon Bolivar produced in 2001 by the John Carter Brown Library. On modern violin she performs with the Rhode Island Philharmonic and numerous other groups in Providence and Boston. Gulley also collaborates with composers Steven Jobe and Alec K. Redfearn on recordings, live performances and music for theater, dance and film. She currently directs the Suzuki string program and teaches thirty young violinists at the Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, where she has taught since 1990.

Bill Farber, Violin

  • William (Bill) Farber studied violin first in New Jersey, then in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. His teachers included Gerard Matté, Samuel Applebaum, Sylvia Kay, Richard Luby, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Fredy Ostrovsky and William Waterhouse. Bill performed as Associate Concertmaster for the North Shore Symphony, Molloy College, and Concert Festival Orchestras in New York, and is Assistant Concertmaster for the Narragansett Bay Symphony and South County Chamber Orchestras in Rhode Island. He has also served as a board member and concerto competition judge for community orchestras. A graduate of Brown University, Bill worked internationally as a lighting director and cinematographer for motion pictures and television. After relocating to Rhode Island, he advised and mentored Brown’s student-run visual arts, theater, dance, and video performance and production groups. Bill can often be found riding a bicycle on roads and trails during warm weather, and in the woods - on skis or snowshoes - in the winter.

Brandon Kaplan, viola

  • Brandon Kaplan is a freelance musician, private educator, and adjudicator in Rhode Island and Connecticut.  He is most recently known for his work with the Osiris Quartet while completing his MM and Graduate Performance Certificate in chamber music from the University of Connecticut.  As quartet in residence, Osiris toured throughout New England, Austria, Germany, and Italy and placed second in the MTNA Eastern Regional Chamber Music Competition in 2018. Brandon serves as an adjudicator for CMEA’s regional and All-State music festivals as well as the NEMFA regional finals.  During his time at UConn, Brandon worked as an educator and quartet coach for the Department of Music and served as principal violist, librarian, and coordinator of the symphony orchestra. He also works with Elm City ChamberFest, a summer music festival held at Yale, intended to develop musicians K-12. Currently, Brandon works as a private teacher and chamber music coach in Rhode Island and the greater Connecticut area.  His primary instructors include Ann Danis, Solomiya Ivakhiv, Theodore Mook, and Sophie Shao. Brandon has also studied with members of the Emerson Quartet, Dover Quartet, Orion Quartet, and individuals Kenneth Fuchs, Christine Grossman, Harvey Felder, Marcy Rosen, and Benjamin Zander.

Robert Hayden, Clarinet

  • Dr. Robert Hayden is a founding member of Musica Dolce. During his professional music career, he has performed with the U.S. Air Force Band, the Georgetown, Annapolis, and Baltimore Symphonies and spent six years touring the United States and Canada while leading his own five piece musical ensemble. He holds music degrees from Ithaca College and Catholic University, as well as a DMD degree from the University of Connecticut and a post doctoral orthodontic certificate from Emory University. He has recently retired from an active orthodontic practice in Westerly and Block Island.

Meghan O’Connor, Violin

  • Meghan O'Connor is a 2002 graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, where she received a BA degree with honors in music and mathematics. She was a recipient of the Filene Music Scholarship as well as the Senior Music Award. Currently, she is a private violin instructor and freelances throughout Southern New England. She has performed with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony, Rhode Island Pops, Chorus of Westerly, RI Civic Chorale and the Rhode Island College Symphony Orchestra. Meghan is a member of the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, Musica Dolce, and is concert master of the Newport County Community Orchestra at Salve Regina University, where she is an adjunct faculty member. Meghan performed in several Newport Music Festival concerts during the 2010, 2011 and 2013 seasons.

Ilana Revkin, Viola

  • Ilana Revkin is a freelance violist and teacher from East Greenwich, RI. She holds a B.A. in music and Italian from Vassar College, an M.A. in musicology from Brandeis University, and an M.L.S. in music librarianship from the University at Buffalo. She teaches strings at Rocky Hill Country Day School as well as private violin and viola lessons at her house. She performs at weddings, church services, college performances, and other special events across Southern New England and is a core member of the string quartet, La Bella Musica.

patricia petersen, Violin & Viola

  • Patricia Petersen has a Master of Music degree from URI and taught music in the North Kingstown Schools until her recent retirement. She played in the RI Philharmonic Orchestra for over 30 years and has an active private studio. She played viola for and was the manager of the Amari String Quartet. Pat is a past president of the RI String Teachers’ Association. She plays for and serves on the board of Musica Dolce. Other musical memberships include ASTA, NAFME (includes RIMEA) and the Henschel Club.

Val Korennoy, Cello

  • William (Val) Korennoy began his musical studies at the age of 7 at a specialized music school in Odessa, Ukraine. In 1983 he graduated from the Odessa State Conservatory, and then played for several years with the Odessa Opera Theater and Philharmonic. While studying in conservatory he was a participant of the national cellist competition. In the early 1990’s Mr. Korennoy immigrated to the United States and became a citizen. He graduated from Bryant University with a double major in accounting and accounting information systems and became a Certified Public Accountant. He currently works for Bank of America. He also performs as a solo cello player and a member of NABSC orchestra.

elizabeth (bunny) reardon, Cello

  • Elizabeth (Bunny) Reardon has called Rhode Island her home for almost 40 years. She graduated from Wellesley College with a Bachelors of Arts degree in music history and composition and from the Boston Conservatory of Music with a Masters in Music Performance. Ms. Reardon has been a participant in numerous chamber music conferences and has been coached by members of the Lydian, Portland, and Manhattan String Quartets. She has also attended Suzuki Institutes across the country, participating in graduate level training courses. Ms. Reardon maintains a private cello studio in East Greenwich where she has taught at least a couple of generations of young cellists. She has been performing with Musica Dolce since 2000.

John Sumerlin, Violin

  • John Sumerlin has performed in the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe as soloist through Artistry Associates Management. As first violinist of the Harrington String Quartet he was a finalist in the Banff International String Quartet Competition, and with the Harrington played over 60 concerts a year in the US and Mexico. He has been a first violinist in the Dallas, Cincinnati, American, and Honolulu Symphony Orchestras, as well as the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, and Concertmaster of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra, with which he was the featured soloist in over forty concerts with conductor Thomas Conlin. He has been Artist in Residence at Dalhousie University (Halifax, NS) and the West Texas A & M University (Canyon), and on the faculty at S.U.N.Y Purchase. Since 1989 Sumerlin has taught violin, viola, and chamber music at Rhode Island College, as well as conducting the Rhode Island College Chamber Orchestra. He also serves as Concertmaster of the RIC Symphony Orchestra. In 2010 he and colleagues Samuel Breene, Susan Culpo and Steven Laven co-founded the Proteus String Quartet, which is now in its sixth season.
